(Commentary): Failure
Failure is a common experience for all of mankind such as sickness, love, and death. However, it is the one experience that many people have failed to understand in depth. That, it is just a first step towards something meaningful.
Just as necessity is the mother of all invention, failure is the mother of all success. We have a lot to learn from our failure than our success, failure also keeps us humble and reflective where success would make us arrogant.
I have read a great book a few years ago. Back when I was a university student called "Hannibal and Me", it is about how the author draws comparison between his own life and the life of Hannibal, a great warrior who fought against Rome. Rome's greatest nemesis.
Hannibal was a great general who stroke fear into the hearts of the Romans. He made many women widow, many great families without heir. People would be frightened so much that "Hannibal is at gates" became a saying. However, what happened to such an amazing character. He lost everything, his friends, family and eventually his homeland to the Romans. An opposing Roman general learned from Hannibal and used his own tactics to defeat him.
Success is a disaster, failure is a mirage. You failures today might lead to great success tomorrow, Your success today might lead to great failure in the future,
What is important is the ability to maintain equanimity in the face of success and failure.
But, we must remember that not all failure are equal. Failure from the constant trail and error, failure from taking a bold step is very much different from failure from never trying.
They are not the same. The lessons of those experience would not be the same.
The greatest failure is in never trying.
What we need is:
1. Equanimity in the face of success and failure
2. Unwavering courage, self-love, and self-believe
3. Love, love for family and friends for success is nothing without our loved people around us
Personally, I believe that success does not have to be something a few years down the line. The steps we take everyday and the progress we make everyday can be celebrated as success. Of course, equanimity. Failure and success are both the same.
So long, we follow our system (1% better everyday), laugh more, smile more, been honest, that day is a success.
Let us get off the treadmill (constant chasing) and just live our life.
